BEWARE OF CRAIGSLIST

You have found this page by searching for DAVID HOWER, HR MANAGER, VILLACOM LIMITEDWELORIS STAFFING, DAVID HOWER AND THOMAS some junk, am I correct?

Because you applied for a job and he was the person who responded, am I correct?  Well, it's messed up.  People just don't know when to stop the nonsense and be good.  Many people need jobs, and sometime, some of those many people use sites like Craigslist to job hunt.  People like me.  You see, I was on Craigslist and was very excited to see
a job paying $16 - $20 bucks per hour.

Who wouldn't apply, right?

I was very surprised to have actually run into A SCAM while searching for part-time work.

In short, I replied,  I sent my resume and a cover letter.  I received an email acknowledging my submission which also stated some interesting reading material.  I have copy and pasted it here:

========================================================================

Hello,

Thank you for sending your resume to me. So the job responsibilities are clear, you will be answering the phone, scheduling meetings, and running company errands such as buying office supplies and making bank deposits in a company car. When running errands you will be provided with a company credit card to make supply purchases, etc.

We have had some bad experiences with prior employees taking advantage of having access to a company credit card in the past, so before we can schedule an interview, we need you to get a credit check. We prefer you use http://creditcheckcentral.org/promo2 to obtain this information as they currently have a free trial. We have also found their reports most accurate. When you submit your information they will send you your credit score.

When you email me your credit score, we can schedule for an interview. Please do not email me your credit report, as this may have private information in it. If you have a low credit score, that will not prevent you from having an interview with us, but it does show us that you are trustworthy and responsible. Please send me your schedule with availability for an interview along with your credit score. I am looking forward to your response.

Sincerely,

David Hower

@Lucia, when I realized it was a scam, I replied with a high score and mentioned that I would be expecting a call. No response.
@anonymous, I know exactly how heartbroken you feel. I felt the same way. Shame on whomever is behind the scam.

This is an email I just received last night. I thought the email looked strange. I googled the company villacom and there was no company website. The only solid info I found is that its a scam but i automatically think jobs who email back and ask for your credit score is a scam. heres the email: davidhower@villacomlimited.com

What a darn shame!!! So many people have landed on this blog as a result of job hunting and feeling that something was wrong with the email response. ON the positive side, I did notice that someone finally reported them to the BBB.

I hope they find and prosecute this con-artist.

It is things like this why I have named this blog, You MOTHER LOVER!

I'm afraid I wouldn't have considered sending a credit score. I would think it be more pertinent to send a police check (proof I could be bonded) of myself to prove that they could trust me and that I was worthy of the position. It doesn't make sense to ask for a credit check. That would stop me and I wouldn't even think SCAM, lol.

I just received this email also, and I have been replying to job posts listed on Craigslist, recently. First of all I'm pissed because this person trying to scam people, disgusts me, especially when we're already down on our luck to begin with. I definatley don't appreciate this! Second of all, I'm glad that when I looked up the company name, villacom limited, that this was the first thing that came up on the internet. Thank You for taking the time to share this information, I appreciate it!

@Magdelen - I agree 100%. lol
@Anonymous, you're very welcome. I'm happy to see that when people are skeptical, they Google things and I'm very happy that I was able to help by sharing my experience also. Good luck job hunting everyone! I believe the right position for each of us is out there somewhere. :o)

I HAVE ALSO REPORTED THEM TO THE BBB WITH A FILED COMPLAINT. NOT ONLY DID I NOT FIND THEIR WEBSITE, BUT I DID AN IP SEARCH ON THEIR ADDRESS AND IT CAME UP SOME LOCATION ON ANOTHER CONTINENT. BOTTOM LINE: (AS SAD AS IT IT...) IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS! GOOD LUCK ALL!

I got the same email. This morning. I want to hunt them down...

It's been about a month since I posted this, I can't believe these "Mother Lovers" are still placing ads, sending out emails and quite possibly, getting what they want.

A SHAME. That's what we get for being able to trade with other countries, really who is going to stop this person who is supposedly overseas??? This is nutts...

Crap- totally fell for this. Oh, Well. I think it's actually an ad for creditreport.com... and I fell for it. I don't think my identity is going to be stolen, I think "free credit report" wants my one dollar to sign up for this Bull. WOW.

Thank you for posting this! I just got a reply to ad for a job that I sent my cover letter and resume to yesterday. It was the exact same thing you have posted for Thomas Coffman at Weloris Staffing. I was a little leery so I googled the company and came across your posting. Thanks again for the WARNING!

received this morning, to me they are pretty good at covering their bases as far as scamming, they give you enough info to an unknowing person to seem legit, however nowadays with identity theft and fraud the credit score raises a question as to why they would need something so personal before an interview!!! it's disgusting and sad that people take advantage of the unemployed.. the craigslist add i read stated they were a family run collision center located in villa park, IL red flag automatically when the follow up e-mail was from a staffing company? why would a family business use a staffing company.. i just feel sorry for the person who may fall for this :(

BossMassage said...

WOW! @Anonymous 2/23 11:30am.. You mean this company is sooo desperate that they would place "part-time work" ads, with an enticing hourly wage, in order to make a dollar? Soooo corny. Yesterday alone, this posting had over 200 hits, regular people looking for jobs, running into this scam. I could only imagine the number of people they've actually reached... Isn't this still fraud??

This makes me feel sick to my stomach, I was just laid off Friday, and hope this isn't a common scam. UGH....too good to be true. I was wondering why a restaurant would pay someone that amount for a little office work and errands.

Wow,
Thank you all for your responses. Since I automatically research companies that I have never heard of, I was extremely glad to see this blog on this particular company. My email had the same verbiage but a different name at the end...

It is so frustrating job hunting and constantly coming across fake jobs that just link you to scams or schools. I just graduated from college, I need a job not another school. People suck.

Anonymous said...

I applied for this job today and as soon as I got the response back I knew something was wrong. I googled the name of the company on my response which was Weloris Staffing Services Inc. sent from a Mr. Brian Garibay, HR Manager. When I googled this, your site came up in the search. This is horrible. I want to reply back and let them know that I know this is a scam. They are wasting the time of people who really want to find a decent job.
